Film Screening and Discussion with Riar Rizaldi and Mariam Elnozahy 18:00 at Konsthall C

Join us for a film screening and discussion featuring artist Riar Rizaldi. We will discuss techno-futurism, magic, sufism, and more!

Riar Rizaldi is interested in worldviews and the complexity of belief systems, with particular focus on his home of Indonesia. Using speculative science-fiction, he examines the consequences of advanced technology and modern science to the social, political, and cultural life of human and nonhuman in Southeast Asia, especially in the Indonesian archipelago. Riar explores these issues through the notion of worldbuilding, colliding fiction and observation, and experimenting with audiovisual language and form.

His works have been shown at various international film festivals (including Locarno, IFFR, FID Marseille, Viennale, BFI London, Cinema du Reel, etc.) as well as Centre Pompidou Paris (2021), NTT InterCommunication Center Tokyo (2020), Taipei Biennial (2023), Istanbul Biennial (2022), Venice Architecture Biennale (2021), Biennale Jogja (2021), National Gallery of Indonesia (2019), and other venues and institutions. In addition, solo exhibitions and focus program of his works had been held at Batalha Centro de Cinema, Porto (2023) and Centre de la photographie Genève (2023) amongst others.

This evening we will screen four of Rizaldi's latest works: Fossils (2023), Notes from Gog Magog (2022), Pyroclasts are Elegant Storytellers (2022), and MIRAGE 0: METANOIA – PRELUDE (2023)

Running time: 2 hours including screenings and discussion (with question and answer).
