Under det senaste decenniet har ett socialt och demokratiskt perspektiv dominerat den internationella samtidskonsten. Verksamheten liknar 70-talets grannskapsarbete, institutionerna flyttar ut, med syfte att möta medborgarna och bidra till aktivitet och gemenskap. Samtidigt har konstens sociala ambitioner en motsvarighet i 40-talets arkitekturströmningar som i kritik mot funktionalismens rationella byggande skapade den grannskapsplanering som blev modellen för Stockholms förortsutbyggnad.
Även om de sociologiska argument som motiverade grannskapsplaneringen tidigt tonades ner, ligger grannskapstankarnas ideal om den demokratiska människan fast förankrat i förorterna och de förnyelseprocesser som genomförs där än idag.
Konsthall C är en konsthall i centraltvättstugan på Cigarrvägen. Verksamheten är utåtriktad med ett uttalat samhällsintresse hos de inbjudna konstnärerna. Utöver det finns två permanenta, men föränderliga, utställningar behandla områdets ideologi, historia och arkitektur. Det finns även en mindre utställningslokal - ett fritt bokningsbar under namnet centrifug.
Konsthall c - an art gallery in a laundromat
A social and democratic perspective has dominated the international contemporary art-scene during the last decade. The process resembles the community work of the 1970’s; institutions move out from the city centre with the aim to interact with the public, and hence establish a sense of community by contributing to activities. At the same time, the social ambitions of art echo trends that existed in 1940’s architecture, which, as a critique against the notion of rational construction in functionalism, created the kind of community planning that became the model for design and construction in the suburbs surrounding
While the sociological arguments that initially motivated community planning were toned down early on, they still exist within the democratic individual, strongly cemented in the suburbs and the renewing-processes that the suburbs are going through today.
Konsthall C is an art gallery situated in an old laundromat at Cigarrvägen in Hökarängen. The gallery’s activities are communicative and outgoing. The focus of the works of the participating artists stress the relation between the individual and society as a whole. Beside this there are two permanent exhibitions that deal with the ideology, history and architecture of the community Hökarängen. There is also a minor exhibition space called Centrifug, which is open for the booking of shorter exhibitions.
